Commercial
Client: EDF Trading Gas Storage Limited
Details: This is soon to be the largest underground gas storage facility in the country based in Cheshire. The gas is stored in excavated salt mines many metres under the ground.
JCP Engineers have been employed as consultants for the site over the last eight years. During that time we have provided Civil and Structural advice for office buildings, storage sheds, access roads, cellars, and bridges, for this multi-million pound development.
At present EDF are drilling on site to double the size of the gas storage facility, it is vital that the heavy equipment such as drilling rigs, electrical equipment pipes and many tonnes of stone are carried safely on and off the site. All of this equipment is transferred over a single bridge which is hugely important to the operation. JCP are continually monitoring this to ensure it adequacy for EDF and British Salt.
EDF is the official energy utilities and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games. We are proud to have been of assistance to them.

This landmark building is located adjacent to the main railway in Andover where it has served as a flour mill for a number of years. We have been instructed on numerous occasions to design remedial works at the flour mill, these have ranged from general maintenance issues to structural repairs.

Details: This dynamic group has employed the JCP on a number of its stores throughout the country. The works have involved alterations to the buildings and providing access through the structures to improve the layouts and storage areas.

Working with local shopfitters, structural designs were carried out for the supports required to the shopfront and façade of this retail development. Particular challenges were encountered in the speed of response required and the company was able to react to ensure there was no delay in the programme. JCP have also worked on a number of other Molton Brown stores.

The project at Chaldicotts Farm entailed the conversion of existing farm buildings for light office use. The existing stone walled structure was to be maintained, whilst providing a new reinforced concrete slab internally. The new slab would carry a new internal timber frame structure which was designed to support the new timber first floor.

The Broadgate Circle Development provides unique commercial development in the heart of the City of London.
JCP Engineers were selected to advise a Michelin- starred restaurant chain, famous for its Chinese cuisine, on the complex structural requirements to enable the unit to be fitted out to an exacting structural criteria.

Sue Ryder provides incredible care from their hospices, neurological care centres and out in the community. A number of Sue Ryder care centres are listed buildings and JCP were appointed as consultant engineers dealing with extensions, alterations and strengthening of existing buildings.

Symbiosis produce exhibition stands for display purposes throughout Europe. JCP have been involved in producing structural verification for these stands in locations as diverse as Barcelona, Berlin and London.

In the heart of Pewsey stands The Old Rectory, a Georgian style listed house built around 1710. Our services included providing the client with structural calculations and detailed drawings for an extension to incorporate a blast proof postal room.

Education
Client: Durrington Junior School
To improve the existing entrance area and school office facilities, Durrington Junior School contacted JCP Engineers to design the proposals. Working closely with the School, JCP Engineers prepared full details for the construction, including the Planning Application and Building Regulations package. The new extension was opened in November 2010.

In an exciting new undertaking to provide vocational pathways to local students, Avon Valley College contacted JCP with their intention of providing a Vehicular Maintenance garage for educational purposes.
JCP prepared full details for the construction, including the Planning Application and Building Regulations package, before administering the contract on behalf of the Client and managing the project on site. The garage suite was opened in September 2003, having completed within the extremely tight budget and in just 8 weeks.

Client: Mr and Mrs Cornett
This traditionally designed new dwelling included an extensive basement construction and living accommodation on three further floors including the ample loft space. An adjacent Annexe area; accessed via a part glazed link; was to comprise living accommodation at ground floor and within the roof space at first floor only.
The basement was designed in cavity reinforced masonry with an integral reinforced concrete slab. Close liaison with the Architect was required to ensure that the design was suitably waterproofed and that the required thermal performance was achieved. The traditional strip footings to the adjacent Annexe required careful attention where they approached the deeper basement construction and a stepped foundation design was required.
Above ground, the building structure consisted predominantly of traditional brick and flint panels with a clay tiled roof. Extensive steelwork design was required in order to support the concrete beam and block floors to each of the upper levels, as each floor demonstrated a layout distinct from the level below it.
The main roof comprised a flat roof sat atop a clay tiled pitched roof, with living accommodation within the loft space. With various dormers, roof lanterns to both the main roof and link and spans in excess of 10 metres; the structure required an intricate design involving both traditional timber cut roof elements and sizeable cranked steel supports. The roof to the Annexe area was to be vaulted, requiring the design of a traditional oak kingpost truss and purlins; all left exposed for architectural impact.

This impressive country house replaces an older existing dwelling. The Client maximised the building footprint by installing a cellar in an area prone to flooding, posing complex design implications. JCP were commissioned to complete a full structural design for the replacement dwelling. Throughout the construction phase we worked in close consultation with the Contractor to ensure smooth progression of the development.

JCP were charged with completing the full structural design of this distinguished residential new build, due for completion in 2010.
The project posed unusual challenges in the form of a concrete cantilever staircase and difficult ground conditions including a fresh water spring flowing through the house, which required a considered approach to the design.

The project comprised significant structural alterations to the existing property and a new extension complete with basement, constructed using an insulated concrete formwork system.
The construction of the basement took place during adverse weather conditions so that the poor ground combined with a high water table caused difficulties on site and required significant temporary support to the excavations. Part of the existing property was removed between ground floor and eaves level during the construction of the basement to enable the works to continue safely at the lower level, and JCP were also required to design temporary supports to the existing ground floor slab and roof which remained in-situ.
The structural elements were designed to be sympathetic to the architecture of the building and kept unobtrusive in order to create the elegant family home now completed.

Structural design of a residential new build. The building is intended to resemble traditional farm yard structures including a silos as part of the house. However viewed from the courtyard the buildings are linked together to form a modern dwelling

Retail

The Westfield Shopping Centre at White City is one of the most prestigious recent shopping centre developments in West London. Zara have selected a store in this development to provide an exciting, innovative façade inclining in three directions. Working with the shopfitting contractor, the structure of this shopfront has been designed to be unobtrusive and create the concept required by the designers.
