is the design of a structure and its component parts to carry loads
in the most economical way. It consists of calculations to identify
the load paths and the selection of members according to the proportion
of the load they carry.
Civil Engineering . . . which
is the planning, design, construction, commissioning and maintenance
of the built environment.
Planning Supervision . . . which
is the co-ordination of the health and safety aspects of the
design and construction of the engineering project to ensure
that the works can be built, operated and eventually dismantled
safely under the Health and Safety in Construction legislation.
Project Management . . . which is
the co-ordination of all aspects of an engineering project
to ensure that it is designed and constructed in a timely,
safe and economocal manner in accordance with appropriate statutory
regulations whilst meeting the clients performance requirements.
